Welcome to Beautiful Minds
Welcome to Beautiful Minds, the charity supporting research into best ways to develop the natural gifts in every child. That means every child, from every background. We look beyond the ‘usual suspects’ for talent and giftedness, because we believe that there is still much more to learn about how different gifts and talents present themselves in children, and equally importantly how research can help us better know how to develop the natural gifts in every child. We aim to break down stereotypes about who or what is ‘clever’, and to develop a far greater and informed understanding of learning in child development. And it is easy to get involved, either by entering one of our competitions, leading a fundraising event that benefits your school as well as the charity, winning a scholarship from us to carry out a piece of research to benefit children’s learning in your school, which you can get published on this website.
Charity News Update by Bernadette Tynan
Charity Ball Event
2008 has been a very important year to date for Beautiful Minds. It is always good to form bonds with other registered charities who share our aims of promoting the welfare of children. In Spring I was honoured to speak at a charity ball event organized by the Meningitis Trust and an amazing group of people and families who had turned the personal tragedy into courageous and wonderful deeds to raise awareness of what Meningitis is and how to prevent it damaging children’s health. The whole event was a brilliant success, eventually raising over £60,000.
2012 World Congress for 2012 London Olympics
At the beginning of Summer Beautiful Minds was contacted by Researchers at the Centre for Psychiatry, Barts & The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University, London. This was to take part in a national survey of all charities to do with children’s wellbeing. The research will be used toward fostering partnership between countries world wide such as Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh and Malta, and to develop links for an international 2012 World Congress for young people, bringing together work in sport, education and the arts. It is hoped that this will then form a longer, more wide-reaching legacy for young people from the 2012 London Olympics.
New Beautiful Minds Scholarship for Harvard University
The field of neuroscience, the mind, brain and learning moves on quickly and as part of my role as President of Beautiful Minds I wished to do a further course of study combining neuroscience and education at Harvard which I completed successfully this year. This was not funded by the charity but out of my personal accounts. However, having experienced first hand the excellence of the research facilities in the Mind, Brain and Education faculty it was decided by committee at trustee in August 2008 that Beautiful Minds is to introduce a new scholarship programme for professionals actively working in colleges or schools with young people. This will enable many more people to experience and pass on cutting edge knowledge about the governing dynamics of the brain which can benefit all children. Click ‘Scholarship for Harvard’ at the menu for more details on qualifying procedure and application.
